Cinelli and Mash SF have been collaborating for quite some time now, the Parallax is a clear demonstration of that experience in building street capable track frames. Designed to be more aggressive than its predecessors It has steep seat and head angles, a very low rake fork, without doubt a bike intended to go fast.
I have been through a fair few track bikes in the last couple of years, and have formed a pretty good idea of what I do and don’t get on with. When the Parallax was released I knew it was a frame I’d be into and had to get my hands on one.
Part of what I love about Mash frames is that they are stiff and responsive without feeling fragile in the way that lighter thinner tubed aluminium frames sometimes do. This lends them well to lives of street abuse, which was what my frame was destined for.
Apologies to Garrett Chow for covering all of your hard work in designing its original graphics.
The frame has clearance for tyres up to (and possibly slightly beyond) 28mm which are great for taking a bit of the buzz out of rough city roads, and the dropouts are nice and long which allows me to run a 19/15t split giving a good race gear and street gear at the flip of a wheel. There is a little toe overlap, but as anybody who has ridden track bikes for a while will tell you, its just part of the fun and a necessary trade off required to achieve good handling.
Six months, two thousand miles and as many smiles later I know this isn’t a bike I’m going to be getting rid of. It has never disappointed, getting me to the end of gnarly alleycats and leg burning century rides, to the tops of the steepest local climbs, and ferrying me safely home from the pub on more occasions than I can remember.
If I could only own one of my bikes, I think this is the one I’d be keeping.
